  • What NOT to forget when you go camping 7 years ago There are things I nearly always forget when we go camping. So I’ve made this list for myself (you can read it too!!) to consult just before we walk out the door on our next trip. 1. Phone charger 2. Flip flops For unknown showers. 3. Tongs For the barbeque 4. Bin bags 5. Cold... Read More
  • Cool and useful gift ideas for the camper in your life 7 years ago I’ve complied this list over the last year, mostly inspired by gear envy at camp sites on our road trip; also things I’ve read about on other family camping blogs. I got No. 2 for the other half’s birthday and I plan to print this post out for him when he’s flailing around for a... Read More
  • FAMILY HIKE towards El Cielo, Nerja 7 years ago Lately we have stopped looking for “child-friendly walks”. We are well over the buggy stage now, the kids are older and stronger and we find that once they’re with their friends and having fun, it is us old fogies that are struggling to keep up! So we’ve gone pro. And suddenly there’s so...
  • STUNNING CLIFF WALK East of Nerja 7 years ago Nerja is deservedly renowned for its beautiful beaches, but it is only the start of a magnificent stretch of coastline that extends all the way to Almuñecar. They draw a good crowd during the summer but at this time of year you can often enjoy a whole beach to yourself! This walk starts in the......
  • Camping Las Arenas, Cantabria 8 years ago The sea on your doorstep on Spain's northern coast. Camping Las Arenas was just how Antonio had described it: high on a hill with incredible views and bracing breezes, one of the few 'free camping' sites on the northern coast, almost surrounded by water facing the sea with a river running...

Such a great insiders guide especially for families, I just wish I'd more time last year to explore more. I guess I'll just have to go back again!

An invaluable resource for anyone who is thinking about living in Spain with a young family. Or anyone who is thinking about living in (or visiting) Spain. Or anyone who has a family. Provides writeups of events that are otherwise hard to discover and offers sound advice, and always does so with witty aplomb.

Great blog about this region for family ideas- feel like I'm there, seeing the same things, walking the same walks- this writer has a beautiful way of descriptively capturing the essence of the place. Perhaps she should write a book some day. Keep up the great blogging

Love this blog. I travel a lot but I like to stay off the beaten track and there are some excellent recommendations in here for out-of-the-way places - especially for hiking. I'm planning a trip to Andalucia in the Spring and I will definitely be using this as my insiders guide. The beauty of this blog is that it caters to families, solo travellers or anyone with an interest in beaches, mountains, lakes, festivals, cultural events or generally exploring a region. It's also one of the better written blogs I've come across. Keep up the good work!

Love the blog. We always had a yearning to live the expat life but it just didn't pan out that way. Can do so vicariously through this blog though! And I know if we ever did up sticks and move to Spain I'd be turning to this blog for advice :-) Thanks! Grainne

Super blog, well done to Grainne and Ivan and their kids for doing all the hard work and making choosing a family friendly holiday destination a whole lot easier. I'd happily recommend this site to my Russian and fellow expats here in Moscow and hope it continues with more insights and invaluable tips.

Stumbled across this blog expats while looking for info on China. Clicked thro' to Big Lovely Day and got stuck there. Never got to China and now I have to get back to work! It's a breath of fresh air and made me want to pack my bags (and children) and head off to Andalicia. To the lady who writes the site (Grainne?), I beg you, please come back to Ireland and do the same for Cork! I know there are hidden gems on our doorstep but we need someone like you to make them capture our imagination and get us out into them!! Great site - I'll be back - and I might just pack the cases yet!!

What a great blog! Lots of blogs provide pointers on where to go and what to see; but what sets this one apart is the effort that has gone into researching the history of the places featured. These additional details give a richness and depth that draws you in and inspires you to go explore yourself. Looking forward to exploring this region myself with my three kids!
