Not Your Average American
This blog depends on the classic combination of casual but well written prose and excellent photography. The majority of posts are about Quito and nearby trips with a sprinkling of other areas of Ecuador. Birds are definitely highlighted!

Not Your Average American brings a wonderful mix of good writing, excellent photography, and healthy curiosity through the eyes of a veteran military wife. There is always something at once brand new yet familiar about this blogger's treatment of travel adventures, local color, exotic wildlife, and geographic majesty that helps me to feel like I understand Ecuador almost as if I were there.

Amazing pictures and very informative commentary. I never knew the country to be so diverse and accessible. I really appreciate the gamut of experiences, travel advice, and food related articles. Furthermore, I can really sense the respect for the culture, genuine curiosity, and joy of travel in every post. It is refreshing to read a blog that does not pander to the slangy, fly-by-night vernacular of what constitutes popular interest. Well done, and I will enjoy my continued support for this worthy endeavor.

Travel along with a definitely NOT Average American...each entry pulls the reader into experiences so completely, you feel as though you have been walking beside the writer. Each installment brings the local culture to life so completely. Excellent writing and absolutely stunning photography grace this wonderful blog. Experience life in Equador (and..wherever else this gifted writer travels!) by following this blog - you will be delighted.

To be honest, I've been following Angie Drake for several years in other iterations. I share this newer creation frequently because it's so lovely that I yearn to go wherever she is. I particularly enjoy her openness to "the new" and love riding along as she settles into other cultures and learns the flora, fauna, food. Fearless and a terrific researcher; she's opened Ecuador for me as someplace I MUST visit!

Beautiful photos, wonderful writing, makes me want to visit Ecuador....not your average vacation. The photos celebrate the elegance of everyday life that can be found if we slow down and notice it.

The average, informative, travel guide is a checklist for the "Been there, done that" types. Not Your Average American is better because Angie's accounts and photos (OH MY GOD, the photos!) feed one's sense of wonder rather than quiet it. You will be drawn in, you will understand, you will be inspired! Her eye for detail makes it clear that travel accomplished by a tourist book of checklists is, ultimately, lifeless and unsatisfying. Angie's writing inspires a "strike out and explore" attitude. You and any kids you know will wish there could be more than one posting a day, and you all will hop excitedly when each one comes!
