A lively and thoughtful blog with often-inspired advice about living life sensibly and well, whether you're an expat adventurer or a small-town stay-at-home (and all the shadings in between). My wife, Grace, and I live in Virginia and have just discovered this site. Thanks, Soul of the Heel, for taking the trouble to share your thoughts and observations on life in Puglia and on living the good life.

Id love to contact Scott and Jessica and or like minded people as Im eligible to retire and looking to relocate to Italy. First region decided is Abruzzo, followed by further south, either Puglia or Basilicata ( my paternal grandparents came over from the Foggia area of Puglia in the early 1900s).Having lived 20 years in Miami I can easily relate to Scotts opinion pertaining to languages and communications.I will be looking for an inexpensive room preferably with cooking facilites, to rent and hope to rent from a resident or expat opposed to renting a hotel room, while looking for a property to buy.I share Scott feelings of an extroverted warm and giving attitude, embracing the native Italians...I hope to find a small piece of land with mature or partially mature fruit tree and land where I can grow veg.s to suppliment my income. Thanks to all who read. I’ve just finished your book and thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope you are still having a fabulous time in the heel and look forward to bumping into you when my wife and I complete on our property in San Vito.
