After spending a life-changing year in Spain, I joined the Peace Corps and got sent to Colombia. Specifically, I am in beautiful Barranquilla on the Caribbean coast. In my blog you will read about culture shock, my job as an English teacher, hilarious anecdotes or just every day life.

Hi I went to Colombia as part of a wave of Peace Corps volunteers 45 years ago. I was in the mountains in Cajamarca above Ibague where I didn't hear English spoken for months at a time. My friend Mike ended up in Barranquilla. He stayed in Colombia, married the only Japanese girl in the entire country (LOL) and became a partner in a company that manufactured nuts and bolts for all of South America. Sounds like you are on the track to become a Colombian. Personally I never have re-integrated into US culture even after 40 years. Every time I go to a place where Spanish is the spoken language the Latin side of my personality emerges, and I like that persona a lot better than the North American one. Should have married my beautiful Colombian girl friend---. Best of luck Richard
