Day 145 of 1827: "Today I picked up a phone and made modem noises into it in a desperate attempt to get online. I don't think it worked; maybe the internet here doesn't speak English." Phoenix writes a funny yet very informative blog about his adventures and misadventures in Latin America. He has an incredible knack for connecting with interesting people, which makes it all the more interesting to follow.

Phoenix really knows how to describe unfortunate events in such a funny way that you can't completely feel bad for him. His posts overflow with details, interesting and fun facts. A real treat to read. And he's just getting started. I can't wait to see where this great adventure takes him.

Who just packs a bag and leaves the country for 5 years? This guy! His adventurous spirit and keen introspection is the magic combination that makes Five Years Abroad so good. Well that and his ridiculous sense of humor. Love every post!
