An eminent British newspaper recently compiled a list of the “best places to live overseas” and concluded that Adelaide was the winner. The Sunday Times, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch, gave pride of place to the “small and perfectly formed” city as the most desirable international destinations. Another contender on the list was Austin, Texas which is Adelaide’s sister city.
According to the newspaper, Adelaide is home to elegant homes, tree-lined boulevards with beautiful gardens and parks and is also considered to be Australia’s best-kept secret. Due to the locals’ obsession with cricket, it has the world’s prettiest cricket ground and, to add to that, the starriest night skies.
The piece went on to say that Adelaide was the perfect package and that, although it has a colonial past, it’s image is becoming more hip. Every culinary craving could be satisfied by the central food market and nearby Barossa Valley’s vineyards. House prices in the city are also the lowest of all Australian main state capitals.
Recently, Adelaide is being seen as a boutique destination and it was the only Australian city to appear on the “52 places to go in 2015” list compiled by The New York Times.
