A disgruntled expat business owner in Spain is fighting with TripAdvisor after her best reviews were lost, meaning her restaurant is no longer listed as one of Marbella’s best eateries.
Belgian Eveline Taeleman’s renowned restaurant Terraza Aguadulce, was formerly rated as the second best restaurant in Puerto Banus on the travel site.
However, after she quizzed a negative review from a new user, who compared the restaurant to its main competitor, the website removed 17 of her top reviews which, in turn, saw the restaurant slump to number 18.
TripAdvisor argued that the positive reviews were “suspicious” so deleted them and left the negative review up. Now, just 24 positive ones remain on the site.
Mother-of-three Taeleman revealed, however, that Terrazzo Agua dulce had just enjoyed its best ever season, and claimed that TripAdvisor was “completely, 100 per cent manipulated. She also dared them to get in contact with the 17 positive reviewers and ask them if they visited her restaurant and whether they were happy with it.
She went on to say that TripAdvisor cut her off when she asked them to investigate further, which she described as “very upsetting”.
The Belgian moved from Antwerp to Puerto Banus with her husband 15 years ago; she has had Terraza Aguadulce for that last 13 years.
