Brit expats in Spain’s Costa Blanca region are being encouraged to dig out their valuables and antiques for Flog-it’s auctioneer Mark Stacey.

The popular rags-to-riches show is to be aired from Javea on 14 September, with free valuations the order of the day. Stacey’s trip is aimed at raising funds for the Guardian Angel charity by means of valuing expats’ treasures, making an offer and taking the chosen articles to auction in the UK. The visit is Mark’s second to the region, with the first six years ago seeing a packed venue with more than 400 expats queuing to have their treasures identified and valued. This time, those lucky enough to have items chosen will be live-streamed the UK auction at which they’re being sold.

The event is due to take place in the afternoon at the Palacio de la Paz on Calle de la Salvia, with those bringing items for valuation charged £5 per valuation. The Guardian Angels charity operates out of Gandia and covers the region down to Torrevieja, with its mandate to provide guidance and support for those families involved in divorce or separation. A good number of those helped are British expats who have no close family members nearby to help them through the Spanish rules on marital break-ups and the charity is especially active where children or the elderly are involved.

The previous event took place six years ago and raised a respectable £6,000, all of which was used to provide counselling, medical care and even repatriation back to the UK. Also at this week’s event, famous pianist Lola Smolokowski will give a recital in the house, with children’s charities and animal shelters also on site.
