Following on the success of Canada’s Irish-Canadian Immigration Centre, Moving2Canada is introducing a job-search agency to connect Irish would-be immigrants with Canadian employers.
The service will be aimed at migrants over the age of 35 and families who are ineligible for the Working Holiday one-year visa and need to secure employment before arriving in the country. Applications from workers with engineering or construction backgrounds will be especially welcome.
Moving2Canada’s website encompasses Toronto, Calgary, Fort McMurray and Edmonton, with Montreal due in mid-March. According to Ruairi Spillane, CEO of the company, the focus cities are popular with would-be migrants and offer a good selection of employers experiencing a skills shortage.
He adds that strong markets for Canada’s oil, gas and mining sectors have caused a labour shortage expected to peak over the next two years. A lack of relevant in-country training opportunities has seen employers looking to Ireland in a major way.
Ireland is a popular destination for overseas employers searching for migrant workers, with Dublin’s Working Abroad Expo opening March 2 and showcasing visa and accommodation advice as well as employment opportunities. Moving2Canada will be there, having just completed an employer-aimed immigration roadshow taking in its key Canadian cities.
