Taiwan has been named the number one country in the world for expats in terms of having the cheapest and best medical facilities, according to a new survey.
The research showed that almost seven in 10 expats in the east Asian country said healthcare costs them less than it did before they moved there - in comparison to the global average of three in 10. Furthermore, nearly two-thirds of expats in the country said the healthcare there was better than it was in their homeland, compared to the global average of just under four in 10.
The list, which was compiled by HSBC, revealed that the top five was completed by the UK, Thailand, Japan and Saudi Arabia. The countries that were said to have poor quality and expensive health care were the US, New Zealand, Ireland and Brazil.
The new figures form part of the bank’s Expat Explorer Survey that quizzed over 9,000 expats from more than 100 countries in an online survey. The report noted that the healthcare system in Taiwan is popular among healthcare tourists from around the world, explaining that its provisions for health insurance and simple rules for expats are what sets it aside from the rest.
