A Filipina expat in Dubai has alleged a co-worker and compatriot raped her in their shared accommodation after a night drinking alcohol.
Dubai Police CID Director General Major General Khalil Al Mansouri confirmed the claim and said that the police were currently investigating the matter. He revealed that the woman said she was in bed sleeping when her co-worker came up to her, covered her mouth with his hand to stop her from shouting out and raped her.
The 28-year-old victim went to police to report the incident the following day, informing them that the man was drunk when he attacked her.
Al Mansouri said that during the initial investigations, the suspect confessed to having sex with the woman in their staff room in Al Satwa, but has said that it was consensual. The director general revealed the suspect was being detained while the matter was being further investigated by the public prosecution.
He went on to say that such crimes were rare in the UAE and that citizens of other nations must take note of the religious and cultural values in the country and be aware of acts that could be deemed criminal while living there.
