The English language expat newspaper The Olive Press now features in the 10,000 best websites in the whole of Spain.

For British expats living, working and retiring in Spain, the Olive Press English language newspaper has long been a consistent source of information covering all Spanish regions and ranging from breaking news to advice through articles, local news and breaking stories. In addition, the paper’s staff conduct campaigns, run appeals to find missing expats and report real news relating to everything their readers need to or want to know.

Most importantly in this day and age, the paper does not have a paywall, thus allowing even British expat state pensioners hit hard by the fall in sterling to read all they need to know without having to shell out from their shrinking pensions. Last month saw 600,000 visitors to the paper’s website, along with almost a million hits, and it's now ranked as number 9,079 of the over two million websites in Spain. Ratings giant Alexa analyses traffic statistics in order to discover the most-visited sites in any one international region, and has now placed the Olive Press at the top of the tree for English language website media publications. Amazingly, out of the over a billion websites in the online world, the paper’s global position is 212,874!

In 2016, the paper’s print edition was voted second-best English language newspaper in the world and best in Spain, following a global poll involving 27,000 expatriates by the Expat Survey Consumer Awards. In these difficult days, expats in EU member states need all the help they can get in order to plan their lives around Brexit and the many other changes taking place across the planet. A fair proportion of Britons living in Europe are pensioners who’re now faced with making difficult decisions between staying in their chosen countries of residence or returning to a home country likely to be wrecked by the effects of leaving the EU. In this world of fake news and political manipulation, Brit expats in Spain are fortunate to have Olive Press to rely on, giving them the news they need when and how they want it.
