Details are now emerging about a fatal hit-and-run which took the life of 60-year old British expat Paul Murphy just yards from his Spanish home.
Murphy died after being hit by a Range Rover just outside his villa, with police reluctant to release any details until the SUV and the road had been forensically examined. Hours later, Murphy’s son, his girlfriend and another friend, all of whom had been in the vehicle when it hit the victim, were arrested in connection with the incident. According to unnamed sources, the trio were arrested on suspicion of causing Murphy’s death.
Spanish police confirmed the incident happened at around 1.45 a.m. last Tuesday after the Range Rover had pulled up outside Murphy’s house. He got out, leaving his son and the two others in the car, which then ran over him, killing him instantly. His body was left lying in the roadway until police arrived to collect the car for forensic investigation. It’s believed Murphy had his driving license in one name and his passport in another.
The three suspects were bailed as of yesterday, but are not allowed to leave the country as investigations are still ongoing. According to a neighbour, the deceased was living with a woman who seemed to be far younger than him, didn’t seem to have a job and drove a discreet car. She added she believed he was a retiree who’d chosen Spain for its sunny weather.
However, she added, he most have been quite wealthy as the villas in the area were rented out for at least £2,000 a month long-term, and fetch at least £5,000 during the busy season. The neighbour said she still can’t forget seeing the bloodstains on the road where Murphy’s body had rested.
