A British expat pensioner living on her Spanish estate and looking to move to Estepona has been brutally murdered, probably by her farm hand.
Popular pensioner Lesley Pearson lost her husband in 2017 and was planning a move from her estate in Sierra de Cadiz de Algar to her property in Estepona as, after her husband’s death, she felt she needed to integrate into a larger expat community. As a result, she intended to sell her small country estate and its land. Tragically, she was found dead the day after she’d been reported as missing by neighbours when she’d failed to return her hired car after transferring a few belongings to her Estepona home.
Her neighbours reported their concerns about her absence to local police a week ago by filing a missing persons report, and a search of her property last Sunday found her body partly buried on the estate Signs of a violent attack were obvious. After making enquiries, police arrested a man known only by the initials FJBP, who’d been maintaining the dead woman’s farm. According to a neighbour, he’d found out he was about to lose his job as she was selling her estate and the argument became violent, although police have not yet confirmed this version. However, sources claim he’s now confessed to killing the pensioner, saying ‘an argument got out of hand’.
Residents were surprised when the news of the arrest broke, telling local media the accused was from a good family and was just a quiet man who worked around the victim’s farm. The local mayor agreed, saying the man has no criminal record, adding the town is sad and shocked by the unexpected news. At present, the accused killer is in custody and is due to be remanded to prison to await trial.
