A French oil expert and a former Japanese model have become embroiled in a legal spat after meeting on a millionaires’ dating website.
Charles Miriel, 67, and Nan Itakura, 44, met on millionairematch.com and met in person for the first time in the Spanish town of Sotogrande in March. Things were all rosy at the beginning and Itakura and her 11-year-old son moved into the Frenchman’s home in the Andalusian resort town shortly after.
However, just three months later the relationship has turned so sour that both have filed police reports claiming the other has stolen from them.
Itakura, now a marketing boss who claims she is a self-made millionaire, alleges that she invested 288,000 euros into Miriel’s Spain-based pollution reducing fuel company, Eurofuel Products, which he allegedly told her was a guaranteed winner. As a partner, Itakura was to operate from Spain while Miriel would take care of the Gibraltar business.
However, Itakura now says that the Frenchman spent 35,000 euros of her investment on two Range Rovers and a watch, and that she was used in a get-rich-quick scam.
She reported him to San Roque police, complaining of being tricked and used. She explained that being from Asia, where pollution is a major problem, she saw this as an opportunity to help people. However, she now believes it was all a ploy and hoped lawyers and police can help her get her money back.
Miriel insists that his formula reduces emissions by 98 per cent and is completely legitimate, and has filed a counter-denuncia on the grounds that Itakura broke her contractual terms and had tried to steal the formula.
He said that he fulfilled his part of the deal, but she went behind his back to make millions when things had been going well. He added that he was not a crook and did not but the vehicles and watch.
