A deal on training Algerian expatriate Imams in France has been agreed between the countries’ respective governments, revealed the French Interior and Cult Minister Bernard Cazenueve and the Algerian Religious Affairs Minister Mohamed Aissa on Thursday.

The agreement concerns training Algerian imams who are serving in France as well as introducing cultural exchange programmes between university students in the two countries, and reviving the El Ghazali Institute and mosques located throughout the French capital Paris.

The two countries are to cooperate and put a committee of representatives together from the French ministries of foreign and interior affairs and the Algerian ministries of foreign and religious affairs to ensure the new agreement is implemented successfully.

The two countries signed the agreement following a meeting between the joint high commission of France and Algeria which was organised by the two countries’ prime ministers.
