People planning to visit or work in New Zealand can now fill out their visa applications online, in a move that has been viewed as a faster, more efficient way of doing things.
Students have been able to use the online system since last August, and with the most recent enhancement of the system, more and more people heading to the country can do likewise.
Immigration Minister Michael Woodhouse described the news as “fantastic” for anyone in the world who planned to visit New Zealand. He explained that the online visas became possible after the development of the Immigration New Zealand (INZ) ICT system – Immigration ONLINE.
Label-less and passport-less eVisas will now also be offered to onshore visitor and work visa applicants from visa waiver nations, with the next phase of the eVisa being launched later in 2015.
He went on to say that the whole visa process was made easier by Immigration ONLINE, with a faster service among the benefits for visitors. He noted that additional support from export industries like export education and tourism had already been advantageous to international students and visitors to the country.
He pointed out that it was also a great example of how they were making the best use possible of modern-day technology to deliver improved services, adding that 60 per cent of applications were already being completed online with the eventual target being 80 per cent.
