Police searching for a missing British expat in Portugal have said that he may have crossed over the border into southern Spain.
Thirty-one-year-old Jon Edwards, originally from Arbroath in eastern Scotland, lived in the southwestern Portuguese town of Lagos but hasn’t been seen since September.
Two days before disappearing, Edwards knocked himself out after falling down a hill when drunk at a party. The following day he said on Facebook that the night was a
“complete disaster” and that he was a “broken man”. He also complained about feeling dizzy, but ignored friends’ advice to go to hospital.
His mother Lesley believes he may have crossed the border into Spain as he had previously told her how easy it was to do so undetected. She said one of his friends had hopped the frontier when drunk just days before, so she felt that it was likely her son had done the same given he was suffering a head injury and could have been disorientated.
However, she stressed that he left without his passport, clothes and phone and had no access to money. The Scot moved to Portugal in August to work as a sous chef.
