A Spanish entrepreneur’s money-making idea of a hotel dedicated to replicating the bestseller Fifty Shades of Grey has been shot down by the local mayor just before its opening night.
The brainchild of a Valencia businessman, the hotel was set to open a week ago in a small village just outside town in an area with a good number of expat residents. Due to include rooms with an S&M theme and even a dungeon, the risqué project, named Roissy Castle, was converted from an existing hotel, the L’Om del Llosar.
The anonymous businessman told a local expat newspaper that he’d planned to capitalise on the bondage novel’s phenomenal success by providing guests with an enjoyable fantasy experience and lots of fun. Unfortunately, he hadn’t taken into account the building’s location close by Vilafranca village’s Catholic Church with its revered patron saint.
An enraged town council and local mayor Oscar Tena put a stop to the grand opening last Friday and filed a petition accusing the businessman of failing to get the correct license. According to Mr Tena, the entire conversion was done in secret, with even the hotel’s legitimate owners unaware of the raunchy nature of the enterprise.
The disappointed entrepreneur, still anonymous, hasn’t been seen around the village lately, and it’s very unlikely he’ll see his investment realised or even returned. No reports have yet been received regarding his disposal of all his ‘latest equipment’ purchased for the opening.
