Following an appeal launched earlier this week by English language expat newspaper Olive Press, the search for missing mother of two Rebecca Muldoon has been ramped up by Spanish police.
Emergency 112 are now operating from a base on Camino del Pinar and are coordinating the search for the missing woman. Coverage of Rebecca’s disappearance has spread to local British media outlets as well as the international and national press in Spain and the UK. The search team now includes emergency personnel working with Emergency 112, firefighters, the local Policia and the Emergency Group of Andalucia (GREA), which helped to set up the emergency command post. Police are not ruling out foul play as yet, although Rebecca disappeared after she’d lodged a domestic violence report against her partner.
Meanwhile, an unexpected twist in the Brexit saga has raised the hopes of expat Remainers in Spain. To the amazement of the media, former UKIP leader Nigel Farange announced yesterday he would support a call for a second Brexit referendum. Prominent Remainers including Nick Clegg rushed to support him after taking on board his ‘I was in denial’ explanation for his change of mind and direction. Theresa May, of course, insisted another referendum isn’t on, or even under, the table, but betting supremos Coral and Betfair have slashed the odds to 5-1.
For expat property owners looking to sell, 2017 was a good year, with housing sales booming by a massive 20 per cent. November was the best month, with real estate agents reporting some 40,500 transactions and new properties moving at twice the pace of secondhand homes. In financial terms, sales of secondhand homes brought 81.6per cent of the total, with new houses lagging at 18.4 per cent.
