India has come in second place behind China on a list of countries that are ‘up and coming’ for expats to live and work in, according to an HSBC survey.
The Expat Explorer survey noted that emerging Asian economies provided a huge draw to challenge-seeking expats, with 44 per cent admitting that they chose them for the new challenges offered. The Indian economy is expanding by more than five per cent per year and HSBC forecasts that growth will hit 7.3 per cent in 2016.
Sanjiv Sud the head of retail banking and wealth management at HSBC India, said that the country would probably work on developing its industrial sector, with the help of overseas funding, so it could be on a par with other nations in terms of infrastructure development.
Expats in India and China have the most positive outlook and are most confident about how the local economy will perform, with 60 per cent believing that their respective countries of residence are developing into better places to live and work, compared to a global average of just 32 per cent.
There are numerous highly-skilled expats in India working in the engineering and constructions sectors, while IT, telecommunications and financial services are also strongly represented.
