A recent survey has named the city of Singapore as the best business and lifestyle destination for wealthy expats.
The survey, commissioned by HSBC Bank, selected 30 countries based on factors such as earning power, luxury lifestyle and disposable income. Over 5,000 expats based in 100 world countries took part, with Singapore rated highest of the 30 countries involved, and the survey also revealed that 54 per cent of Singapore respondents earn more than $246,000 a year.
Singapore was also rated highly for its quality of life, safe environment and facilities for families. Foreigners make up a sizeable chunk of Singapore’s population, with those bringing their families with them considering the education facilities were excellent, thus making the state the best place to bring up children.
80 per cent of those surveyed found they had more money to spend after covering the necessities of life, and around 44 per cent noted their disposable income had risen by 50 per cent or more after their relocation to Singapore. The state also scored high in the lifestyle stakes, especially in the fields of commuting time and active social life.
According to HSBC’s Paul Arrowsmith, the country is fast becoming an expat hub for its career prospects, financial rewards and lifestyle. The also-rans in the survey include Bermuda in second place and Thailand in third, with China, Hong Kong and Vietnam also placed in the top ten.
