A large number of Brits over the age of 50 are looking to travel for at least part of the year after regretting not doing so when they were younger.

One in four UK citizens say they would like to live overseas for part of the year, particularly during the cold winter months, while three in four admit that travelling is now top of their ‘to do’ list. Meanwhile, nine in 10 people describe the fact they did not travel in their younger years as a regret.

The research, carried out by insurance company Staysure, shows that more and more over-50s are travelling to exotic destinations such as Thailand, India, the US, Mexico and Barbados, while 71 per cent said seeing movies such as Out of Africa (Kenya) and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (India) inspired them to travel.

Staysure CEO Ryan Howsam explained that many people over the age of 50 were seeking to travel to far-flung destinations, while a large number were not just looking to relax on the beach for two weeks – they were looking to learn about local cultures and customs.

He went on to say that some were travelling with partners or friends, while others were happy to go solo to seek out new friends or even a love interest, adding that these experiences could prove “amazing” for those who had never undertaken such adventures.
