Manhunt under way after mother abducts her son from Costa de la Luz

It’s feared six-year old David Thompson has been abducted by his mother from La Antilla in Spain’s Costa de la Luz as part of a plan to fly to an Eastern Europe destination.
Last Monday, David’s father reported his son was missing, claiming his ‘aggressive’ ex-wife may have been responsible for his disappearance. The boy had been staying with his mother, Davy’s ex-wife Mirka, during an agreed visitation weekend, and his father hasn’t heard from them since she took David.
According to the father, his relationship with his ex-wife is strained at best due to her insults, and he doesn’t talk to her any more. He told local media Mirka is an aggressive woman who kicks doors and hits her fists on the table, but he’s sure she never been violent towards her son. The boy's father, a UK expat from London, has recently been awarded full custody, with a local Spanish court now asking Interpol’s help in tracking down the missing pair believed to be either in London or Poland.
According to local police chief Ezequiel Romero, this is a British expat who claims his ex-wife should have returned his son after the agreed visitation weekend, but has failed to do so. Police, he adds, have attempted to contact Mirka, but her phone has been switched off for at least the past 24 hours. In principle it seems to be a family problem but it’s impossible to rule out any other scenario.
David’s father is increasingly worried, telling local reporters Mirka had visiting rights between last Friday through Sunday, but she’s not at home, her car isn’t there, she’s not answering calls and David is still missing and might have been taken to Poland by his mother. At a court hearing on Tuesday, the judge asked for Interpol’s help in tracing the missing boy and his mother.
Visitation rights were every other weekend and one hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and his father knew something was wrong shortly after Mirka failed to bring David back. Last year, his mother took the boy to Poland without getting permission from her ex-husband, and would have needed to get him a passport for the trip. If he’s not found or returned to his father by later on the 31st, a European Arrest Warrant will be issued, with Spanish police now hunting for the pair as a matter of urgency.
